It all began in 2012. I had been working as an RN for four years. I was working as a float mental health nurse covering shifts in community outreach, emergency, and the acute inpatient unit. I loved the dynamic, fast-paced atmosphere- but I was drawn to towards the aesthetic world. The mind-body connection is an integral component of one’s mental health and physical health. I recognized that self-confidence in one’s appearance is deeply connected to one’s internal and external being. I was never the most glamorous, never wore much make-up - but like many of us - I enjoyed that radiating feeling when you just KNOW you are glowing and looking your best. Imagine being able to help facilitate that confidence in others? I was sold.
I enrolled in a injectable training course and …ta-da! I was an aesthetic nurse injector. It was a unique experience engaging with healthy patients who were excited about their appointments. It was a whole new world that I was falling in love with. But then, I hit a road block. I was young, I was unprepared for the harsh reality of running my own business. I was blown away by the some of the medi-spa practises. Then I was hit with an unexpected family and life transition. It just wasn’t the right time to start on my own. Looking back, I have zero regrets. I would have never had the opportunity to land an amazing job ever working as a psychiatric clinician with a world-renowned surgical program and completed a graduate degree in Nursing.
In 2019, my mind began to wander back to the aesthetic nursing world. I came to terms with the fact that I am a mid-career nurse and I reflected on where I saw myself being the happiest for the rest of my career. And of course, when you are truly passionate about something - it never dies. But this time it would be different - with time comes evolution, growth and maturity. I enrolled as a lifetime member for a nurse injector training program learning the theoretical, practical, and business aspect of cosmetic nursing. I have immersed myself into reading recent peer-reviewed aesthetic and dermatology journal articles, attending webinars, and expanding my knowledge of dermatology.
I am so excited to bring the pearls of wisdom I have gained over my 12 year nursing career. I have so much gratitude for all the patients who have trusted me with their care in some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I promise to do my best to bring my clinical judgement, advanced assessment skills, and evidence-based knowledge to my aesthetic practise. And in my true form always being curious, constantly learning, maintaining integrity, and when necessary - challenging the status quo. In January 2020, The Face Lab officially opened for business. Cheers to that!
