Our team travelled from Toronto to Jersey City, NJ this weekend to learn all about skin and Aerolase. This year's
Art of Diversity in Skin Health Conference celebrated its third annual event, hosted in partnership with
Aerolase, a leader in laser technology, and prominently featuring their acclaimed
NeoElite laser. The conference brought together top dermatologists, skincare professionals, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and physician-assistants to explore cutting-edge solutions to skin health challenges that disproportionately affect people of color. Held in an environment that embraced both diversity and innovation, the event offered invaluable insights into the power of modern laser technologies for addressing common skin conditions.
One of the core themes of the conference was addressing the persistent gaps in treating skin of color with traditional methods, which often fail to deliver satisfactory results for various conditions. Conventional treatments, particularly for darker skin tones, can sometimes exacerbate issues or fail to provide the desired outcomes due to the unique characteristics of melanin-rich skin. The NeoElite laser by Aerolase was highlighted as a groundbreaking solution that bridges this gap, offering advanced, safe, and effective treatments for a variety of skin concerns without compromising the skin's integrity.
Pigmentary disorders like melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and sun damage are among the most common concerns in dermatology, especially for patients with darker skin tones. The conference dove deep into how the NeoElite laser offers a non-invasive and energy-based solution for these issues. Unlike traditional lasers, the NeoElite uses short, targeted pulses that are safe for all skin types, providing a safer alternative to reduce pigmentary disorders like melasma, age spots, and lentigos. A key point here is the quicker resolution of hyperpigmentation requires adjunctive skincare!
Vascular conditions such as rosacea, spider veins, and port wine stains are challenging to treat effectively, particularly in darker skin types. The NeoElite laser's precision allows for targeting vascular lesions without causing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a common side effect in treatments for melanin-rich skin. Experts shared case studies showcasing the success of the NeoElite in managing these vascular issues, highlighting its safety profile and efficacy.
Another critical focus was acne, a condition that affects all skin types but manifests differently depending on skin tone. Presenters explored the efficacy of combining traditional acne treatments with energy-based devices like the NeoElite. This laser technology offers a multi-faceted approach, not only reducing active acne but also minimizing acne scars and preventing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that often accompanies acne treatment in darker skin types. It has been touted as one of the best devices on the laser market. Once a patient receives a course of treatments for stubborn acne, it is recommended to move to a maintenance plan.
Auto-immune disorders like lupus and psoriasis can severely affect skin texture and appearance. Dermatologists presented the latest advancements in treating these conditions, with a particular focus on laser solutions. The NeoElite laser has proven effective in reducing inflammation and improving skin health in patients with these auto-immune conditions, offering new hope where other treatments have fallen short. Of course - it’s emphasized that auto-immune conditions do require combination therapy alongside laser.
Rejuvenation treatments for tone, texture, laxity, scars, and stretch marks were also on the agenda. The
NeoElite laser has shown remarkable results in skin tightening and improving overall texture, without the risks of burns or discoloration, making it a safe option for facial and body treatments across all skin tones. We learned that stretch marks and scar reduction are areas where traditional methods have often struggled. By far the biggest take-home is that the Aerolase does wonders for NECK Rejuvenation - one of the trickiest areas that people often wait until its TOO LATE to treat!
The Art of Diversity in Skin Health Conference not only spotlighted the challenges faced by conventional methods in treating diverse skin types but also celebrated the advancements that are transforming the field. With the NeoElite laser by Aerolase at the forefront, skincare providers are now better equipped to offer safe, effective, and inclusive care for patients of all skin tones. The conference was a success in fostering learning, collaboration, and growth, ensuring that skin health treatments are accessible and effective for all. Our team walked away full of ideas to help us continue to intentionally innovate our treatment offering to improve patient results. Stay tuned as we will soon be announcing major changes to our Aerolase treatment packages to give our patients even more value!
